If you have attended convention as a first-time participant, there is a good chance Violet greeted you with a smile. She makes it a priority to seek out new attendees, answer questions, and help them feel like they belong. Her warmth and sincerity set the tone for the kind of professional community we strive to build. She understands that sometimes a simple conversation can make all the difference.

Beyond her visible involvement, Violet quietly works to promote NBEA whenever she can. She serves faithfully on the National Business Honor Society committee and contributes her time and energy with dedication. Her commitment reflects a genuine belief in our mission and in the value of supporting business educators. We are thankful for Violet’s service and the steady encouragement she brings to the NBEA.

NBEA scored high marks from attendees at the eastern regional symposium held on October 6-7, 2022. Attendees experienced a great mix of networking and professional development learning about numerous topics that affect them daily in their classrooms. Dr. Peter Meggison (pictured right, with NBEA President DeLayne Havlovic) was also awarded a special distinguished service award for his long-time and loyal service to the association. Dr. Meggison's career spans more than five decades of teaching and engagement with NBEA.

When Peter Meggison was 17, he knew he wanted to be a business teacher; and two years later when he was 19, he knew he wanted to be a business teacher at a community college. And so, he pursued his dream, and we, in business education became the beneficiary of that dream.

After attending Bristol Community College, Peter graduated from Salem College. He received his master’s degree from Rider University and completed his doctorate degree at the University of Massachusetts.

Peter has taught for over 49 years in the Massachusetts Community College System, fulfilling his goal to teach business education on the community college level. He is currently a professor in the Departments of Computer Technology/Information Management and Business Administration at Massasoit Community College, in Brockton, MA.
Peter broadened his credentials in 2010; when he was the visiting international business professor, at the School of Economics at AKG University in Crackow, Poland. 

Peter has been recognized by numerous organizations for his contributions to business education. He was the recipient of the Postsecondary Teacher-of-the-Year Award from National Business Education Association in 1990 and the Teacher-of-the-Year Award from Massachusetts Business Education Association in 1996. In 2001, he was named Post-Secondary Teacher-of-the-Year by Eastern Business Education Association. The John Robert Gregg Award in Business Education, NBEA’s most prestigious award was presented to Peter in 2005 and in 2009 he received the Delta Pi Epsilon National Leadership Award.
In addition to teaching, Pete served on the Eastern Regional Board for many years and was MBEA president for two years. He directed the activities of MBEA from 2000 to 2014, when there were no other officers in the association. Peter was responsible for rebranding the association, recruiting and training new officers, operating state conferences and building MBEA into the viable association it is today.

Peter has also served NBEA and its councils in various capacities for over 30 years including President of the Board in 2006 and Publications Committee Chairman for nine years. In 2017 he was the NBEA Yearbook Associate Editor. Peter has authored over 15 articles and chapters for the Business Education Forum and the NBEA yearbook. In 2021, Peter helped to preserve NBEA’s history by donating his time and talent in organizing its publications for the NBEA online Library.

Marcia Peitzmeier Anderson is a native of Bloomfield, Nebraska. She completed the first nine years of her education in a one-room school several miles from town and graduated as valedictorian of her Bloomfield High School class. Her high school business teacher inspired her to become a business education teacher.

Her first teaching position was in Stromsburg, Nebraska (Swede Capital of Nebraska) where she taught business education and French. She joined the National Business Education Association during this time and has been a member since then.  She then taught business in Lincoln, Nebraska and completed the master’s degree majoring in business education at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, and Dr. Gordon Culver, former NBEA president, was her mentor.

She joined the business teacher education faculty at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1970, completed the doctoral degree, and became coordinator of SIU’s Business Education Program.  NBEA was always the foundation organization that guided her preparation of future business teachers and her personal professional direction—course requirements included NBEA student membership. She rarely missed attending a national NBEA Convention and served in a variety of NBEA leadership roles including Chair of the National Policies Commission for Business and Economic Education and Delta Pi Epsilon National President.

Dr. Anderson was recipient of several awards during her career: SIU-C Alumni Association Great Teacher Award, 1981; University Teacher of the Year Award, National Business Education Association, 1995; Outstanding Teacher Award, Illinois Vocational Association, 1980 – 1981; John Robert Gregg Award, Highest National Recognition in Business Education, 2004.

In her spare time, she enjoys time with her daughter and her family, church work, volunteering, gardening, gourmet cooking, travel, and attending the NBEA national NBEA Convention to visit former colleagues and friends.
