Publication Guidelines and Submission Checklist 

The Journal of Research in Business Education is owned by the Association for Business Teaching and Research.  This is a high-quality research journal with 30% acceptance rate, credibility, and impact factor. The scope of the journal is open to topics associated with:• original research in business disciplines (management, marketing, accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, information technology, human resources management, etc.)• original research in business teacher preparation and business instruction (best practices, instructional strategies, clinical practice, student teaching, edTPA, student organizations, etc.)• applied research in business disciplines or business education • original or applied research in international business/global business• Each author must be a member of the Association for Business Teaching and Research upon manuscript acceptance.  The deadline for the call for proposals is September 15, 2020.  If you have problems uploading your documents or any questions, email the Journal for Research in Business Education's Editor, Dr. Molly Wickam, at 

Submission Checklist

Please use this checklist as you submit your manuscript. 

  • The length of the manuscript is between 6,000 - 7,000 words including the title page, abstract, and body.  References are not included in the word limit.  
  • References and in-text citations are formatted APA 7.
  • There is a Title Page submitted separately as a Word document.  The Title Page includes: title, names, position titles, affiliations, email addresses of all authors, date, and name of the corresponding author.  
  • On the Title Page, if appropriate, include an acknowledgment statement for agencies that assisted with authorship or research funding.  
  • On the Title Page, include this statement, “This manuscript has not already been published, and it is not under consideration by another journal.” 
  • The same Title Page is included in the document that contains the manuscript.
  • There is a single-spaced abstract that describes your study at a glance and has a maximum word count of 150.
  • There are about five keywords that are formatted per APA. 
  • For original research, the body of the manuscript contains these sections: Introduction; Purpose of the Study; Research Questions; Review of the Literature; Research Design and Methodology; Results and Discussion; Limitations and Recommendations for Future Research; Conclusion (including findings and recommendations)
  • If institutional review board approval was required and obtained, state that in the manuscript. 
  • Tables and other visuals are included in an Appendix. 
  • The manuscript is formatted in Microsoft Word and is double-spaced with 1” margins.
  • Pay attention to sentence structure, logic and comprehension, flow, word choice, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • There is an in-text citation for each Reference.
  • The References are single-spaced with a space between each reference. 

Under copyright law, you hold the copyright to your creative works for your lifetime and 50 years thereafter. Before the National Business Education Association and the Association for Business Teaching and Research can publish your manuscript, the Association must receive all copyrights from you, including specifically the rights to: 1.Use this material in NBEA and Association for Business Teaching and Research publications; 2.Give other publishers permission to prepare derivative works; 3. Reproduce this material, including electronic media and making photocopies. It is understood that any reproduction of the above material will be clearly identified as your work. You will retain the right to excerpt it freely, but we ask that you indicate the original source of publication. I agree that I will not submit this manuscript in its entirety for publication elsewhere if it is published in the Journal for Business Teaching and Research.
