In today’s fast-paced classroom environment, helping students stay focused is more critical than ever. Based on Daniel Kahneman's groundbreaking work in Thinking, Fast and Slow, this webinar offers high school personal finance, accounting, and business teachers practical strategies to improve student focus and decision-making. By understanding the cognitive processes behind how students think, you can more effectively guide them toward better learning outcomes.
In this one-hour session, you'll learn about: - System 1 vs. System 2 Thinking: Explore Kahneman’s two modes of thinking—System 1 (fast, intuitive, and emotional) and System 2 (slow, deliberate, and logical). Learn how these systems impact student behavior and engagement in the classroom.
- Recognizing and Avoiding Cognitive Biases: Cognitive biases, like overconfidence and anchoring, can affect how students process information. Discover common biases that impact learning and how you can help students avoid these mental traps.
- Improving Decision-Making in the Classroom: Equip your students with the tools to slow down their thinking when necessary, leading to more thoughtful and informed decisions in their academic and personal lives.
- Practical Applications for Teaching: Walk away with classroom strategies to implement Kahneman’s insights. From fostering reflective thinking to creating environments that promote System 2 engagement, these techniques will help your students better focus and retain information.
This session will provide a fresh perspective on how to cultivate focused, thoughtful learning environments, empowering students to develop stronger cognitive and decision-making skills.
